Hello, My name is Diego; I am the Marketing Manager of a local surf resort in Indonesia. I am a Colombian and Australian National working in Indonesia for the past 14 years

During Covid, we brought top Indonesia’s fibreglass boat builders to perfect an already successful proof of concept boat. We are certain that with your help we can achieve the same with a small and medium-size prototype by building their permanent moulds and obtaining proof of concept to commercialize them throughout the archipelago  

We have already constructed the facilities in our location to safely, quickly and inexpensively dock, build and service large, medium and small fibreglass boats. We want to use our proven local wooden canoe designs and turn them into moulds to “print” out affordable, safe, efficient, durable fibreglass boats. 

The Impact

Our initiative aims to discard the use of wooden vessels altogether for our tourism operations. We also want to offer local boat owners in our community and others in the archipelago an alternative to their small and medium wooden canoes. 

We want to grow awareness about deforestation in the Mentawai Rainforest by making a safe, fast, efficient, and affordable boat with a longer life expectancy and lower maintenance costs.

There has been a growing population in Mentawai reliant on ocean transportation for most of their day to day lives. Most, if not all, of this ocean transportation, occurs using local wooden canoes coming from big trees logged out of the Mentawai Rainforest. As of now, there are no purposeful local initiatives to revolutionize the current marine industry into a sustainable one. 

What do we need?

We want to build a small and medium-size proof of concept (prototype) boat with its corresponding permanent moulds.

Total cost estimated for medium size boat and permanent mould:  A$21,415 

Total cost estimate for the small size boat and its permanent mould: A$7,135 for three weeks

Total estimated for transportation delays, storms, overheads, and hidden costs   A$4,898
