Volcom sponsor and Latin heart-breaker Mauro visit us at the Mentawai Surf Camp.
Put a Puerto Rican in Mentawai, add some Volcom house flavors, solid backdoor experience, and a fervent desire to launch sky high and you get Mauro Diaz… a colossal combo buildup and fair competitor for the usual localized Colombian mating exhibition dances. If there was a thing such as Surf high jump competitions we sure know this guy be claiming first prize, he is aiming for nothing closer than the moon.
This Septemeber we were blasted with the unusual and relentless south, south-west winds causing damage on the abundant choice of waves we have around here as well as wrecking some boat charter vessels and competing colleague surf camps. The wind gusts did not stop us from taking off every day to find the excellent surf spot alternatives and scoring, but it also drove us deep inside, where its tempered with dead calm and I am not being poetically correct here. We went Free Diving.
Surfing, free diving and having fun with a bunch of lovely guests made this another magical month on the Mentawai Island with a young surf pro who inspired us every day.
