body art and their tendency to sharpen their teeth, a practice they feel makes one beautiful.
One of the last truly indigenous cultures left on
the planet, the Mentawai people have their own language, culture and religion. They are skilled craftsmen, boat builders, excellent hunters, but they are not good farmers. The only traditional
diet is sago, which they extract from sago palm trees. Men wear loin cloth made from the skin of bread fruit tree. Women wear traditional skirts from palm leaves. Both males and females are characterised by the unique tattoos they etch on one another as well as their handmade
A Raw Experience
Watch in amazement as the village shamans practice animistic rituals. Learn how to live in unison with the jungle and enjoy each day as you share in the daily life of the traditional Mentawai culture.
No creature comforts
Please bare in mind that you'll be visiting the real world of the Mentawai people. There are no additional services for guests and you will live amongst them - as they do. You'll live, eat and sleep as they do. Guests are advised to bring additionally: Rain Coat, Boots, Mosquito Net,
Toilet paper and lightweight travel mattress.
It's also good practice to bring Cigarettes (Kaloka) or original Tboacco (Panorama), even neclaces -
as gifts for the tribe. You can buy these from Maura Siberut.

Because this isn't a show - but in fact a real life experience we cant always guarantee that guests will experience "everything" we plan. Some days the weather may not allow etc. However, you will experience most of the said itinerary. When staying
3 days or more you will almost certainly experience the core activities as a general rule.
Each trip includes food and water as well as a very experienced Mentawai / English speaking guide. We guarantee a truly memorable time
for all those who visit, no matter how long the stay.
1 day Trip
Similar to the 2 day/1 night trip (above middle), guests will experience the same activities, except the tribe dance, the over night stay and the next mornings proceedings. Guests will start the day at 7am & return by 7pm to Maura Siberut.
2 day / 1 night Trip (2 day trip)

3 days / 2 nights Trip (3 day trip)
Similar to the 2 day/1 night trip (above middle), those venturing for an extre day will trek deeper into the jungle (2-3hrs more) and experience an even rawer trip into the jungle, learning even more about the way of the Mentawais. Guests will learn even more about how to live off the jungle, how to find water and how to survive.
5 days / 4 nights Trip (5 day trip)
Furthermore to the 3 day / 2 night trip, those embarking on the 5 day trek will walk even deeper into the jungle, experincing more detail on such topics as tatooing, medicine and much more.
